Get to know the presenters of Coding on the River 2011. 

Dominic Brodeur: Director of Development, University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute. Brodeur is the Director of Development for the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute. As the Director of Development, Dominic is in charge of all the fundraising activities for the institute with a focus on major gifts. Located in Jacksonville, the Proton Therapy Institute is the only proton center in the State of Florida, and the only in the Southeast. Dominic has been in professional fundraising for ten years in education and medical fundraising. He has raised more than $10 million during his career.  

Christina Catalano, MBA: She has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Massachusetts and a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Florida. Over 30 years of healthcare experience in by the private practice environment and academics. Experience includes revenue cycle management, health information technology and practice management. Served for 5 years as Business Manager at University of Florida Healthcare Inc., 9 years as Department Administrator at Department of Medicine, and is currently Director of EHR Compliance and Meaningful Use at Department of Medicine.

Stacey Dingman, CPC: Corporate Trainer with the University of Florida Jacksonville Physicians, Inc. Stacey conducts training programs for medical providers and personnel on medical coding and documentation related topics including ICD-9 diagnosis coding, CPT procedure coding, medical terminology, Billing Compliance, and third-party carrier reimbursement policy issues. Stacey has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry and has worked with the University of Florida Jacksonville Physicians, Inc. since 1993.

Tirbod Fattahi, MD, DDS, FACS: Associate Professor and Chief, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; Program Director, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency. Dr. Fattahi is an associate professor of Surgery and the Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Florida Health Science Center in Jacksonville, FL. Dr. Fattahi has been in this position since 2002. After attending dental school, he completed medical school as well as his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, KY. Upon finishing his residency, he enrolled into a one year Facial Aesthetic Surgery fellowship under the guidance of Dr. T. Williams Evans in Columbus, OH. Dr. Fattahi’s practice currently includes management of facial trauma, orthognathic surgery, as well as facial aesthetic surgery. His training in facial aesthetic surgery following his residency has allowed him the opportunity to establish an aesthetic surgery practice while at the University setting.

Kelly R. Gray-Eurom, MD, MMM, FACEP: Association Professor, Deparmtnet of Emergency Medicine. Associate Chair and Director, Clinical and Business Operations. Professional Education includes: Medical at University of Vermont College of Medicine, Burlington, VT. Professional at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, New Orleans, LA. Residency at Emergency Medicine, University of Florida College of Medicine, Jacksonville, FL. Board Certification in Emergency Medicine.

Ana Grogan: Over 10 years of diverse and progressive supervisory and Human Resources Generalist experience in both large and small business settings. Apt at leading multiple projects to desired business results. Keen abilities in group and team dynamics. Always successful in problem resolution, negotiation, partnerships and start up of projects or work programs. Demonstrated ability in relating to and maintaining rapport with individuals at all levels. Can work in complex and fast paced environments to achieve strategic initiatives. Progressive leader with take charge approach to leading continuous change efforts. Ana has most recently worked as the Director, Programs Committee of the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce , a division of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce. Specialties include: HR Generalist, Recruiting, Sourcing, Diversity and Inclusion.

Constance K. Haan, MD, MS: is currently the Senior Associate Dean for Educational Affairs, the ACGME Designated Institutional Official for Graduate Medical Education and Professor of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville. Dr. Haan has been the Chair of the Performance Improvement Committee at Shands Jacksonville for the past six years, and has served on the Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Database Workforce and the Society’s Workforce on Evidence Based Surgery. Dr. Haan completed residencies in general surgery at University Hospital in Boston and in cardiothoracic surgery at The Ohio State University Hospitals, followed by a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She is board certified in both general and cardiothoracic surgery.

Maryann C. Palmeter, CPC, CENTC: Director of Physician Billing Compliance. As the director of the Office of Physician Billing Compliance, Maryann is responsible for providing professional direction and oversight to the billing compliance program of the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville, which incorporates all academic and clinical components of the College of Medicine, as well as the faculty practice plan (UFJPI) and health services support organization (UFJHI). Maryann is also responsible for the ongoing administrative and operational oversight of the College of Medicine-Jacksonville Office of Physician Billing Compliance.

Maryann has gained extensive knowledge of Federal and State billing, coding, and documentation regulations through her work experiences on both the professional billing and government payer sides of the healthcare industry. Prior to joining the faculty practice plan, Maryann was employed for nine years with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. During her tenure with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc., Maryann held various management positions and worked in several areas in the Medicare Part B division including: claims processing, education (both staff and provider), medical review, microfilm retrieval, quality analysis, and suspended claims processing.

Maryann began working with the University of Florida Jacksonville Physicians, Inc. in 1992 as a Medicare follow-up and collections coordinator. She has been involved in billing compliance since 1998, became the associate director of the Office of Physician Billing Compliance in 2004, and was promoted to director of the Office of Physician Billing Compliance in 2010.

Maryann is a Certified Professional Coder and holds a specialty coding certification in Otolaryngology. She is currently the president of the Jacksonville, Florida chapter of the American Academy of Professional Coders and is a member of the Health Care Compliance Association.

Betty Paret RN,MBA/HCM:   Betty is a registered nurse with certifications in Nephrology Nursing. She is currently the Regional Director of Operations at Fresenius Medical Care, which is the largest renal replacement therapy provider in the United States. She is active in the Angel Wings International organization and coordinates quarterly medical mission trips to Haiti.

Sunil K. Sharma, MBBS, MD: Assistant Professor and Medical Director, Bariatric Surgery

Mae Sheikh-Ali, MD: Assistant Professor Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, Assistant Program Director, Endocrinology Fellowship. Education includes: Medical at Damascus University, Damascus, Syria. Residency at Internal Medicine, Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA. Fellowship in Endorcrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, Jacksonville, FL. Board Certification in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, Internal Medicine.

Catrena L. Smith, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, PCS: Owner of Access Quality Coding & Consulting, LLC. Catrena began her career in the health information management field over a decade ago. Catrena is a certified coder and successfully earned multiple certifications with the American Health Information Management Association, American Academy of Professional Coders, and the American College of Medical Coding Specialists.

Catrena's passion for medical coding was ignited when her military family was relocated to Germany. She was intrigued with how coded data affected military missions across the world. She became very concerned with how inaccurate coding had far-reaching ramifications. She has since focused her career on physician and coder education and training in hopes of increasing the consistency and accuracy of data.

Catrena has worked in all sectors of coding. She has provided coding, auditing, and education to hospitals/teaching facilities, physician's offices, military treatment facilities, and VA facilities. Catrena has also taught medical coding and billing at a local college and on-line.

In 2011, Catrena launched Access Quality Coding & Consulting, LLC. Through this company, Catrena services clients with medical records coding, auditing, and education. Coder Certification Prep Courses geared toward the CPC and CCS-P are also offered through AQCC.
